1. What is a Raw food?
Raw food is food that has not been cooked or heated in past a certain temperature. The advantage of eating raw foods is that the food in its natural raw state contains more nutrients and beneficial digestive enzymes. There is a lot of debate as to what temperature food can be heated in order to still be considered raw. Temperatures range from 40°C (104°F) to 46°C (115°F). What is certain is the more a food is heated past 40°C (104°F) then the more its enzymes break down. At Ireland’s Raw Kitchen we consider raw food as never having been heated past 42°C (108°F).

3. What percentage raw?
There is a lot of debate as to how much raw food one should consume in one’s diet (50%, 75% or 100%). At Ireland’s Raw Kitchen we believe that this is very much up to the individual but we believe that you should introduce raw foods gradually into your diet. We feel that some people worry too much about achieving certain levels of raw food in their diet and we consider that to be counterproductive as it creates stress. You should do what feels right for you. Food after all should be about enjoyment as well as nutrition.

5. Are Raw foods vegetarian?
A raw food diet has generally come to mean a raw vegetarian diet. There are those however who practice raw omnivorous diets which may include meat and fish. Some people also practice a raw vegan diet or a raw fruitarian diet. At Ireland’s Raw Kitchen we consider a raw food diet to be a raw vegetarian diet and that is reflected in our products. In fact all our products could be considered raw vegan with the exception of bee pollen as it is technically an animal product.
